ProFUSE Description

ProFUSE is a free and open-source FUSE filesystem for ProDOS disk images. Currently read only. The OS X version of ProFUSE (and MacFUSE) has a few enhancements and pitfalls. ProFUSE does not work with OS X 10.7 (aka Lion). To be more accurate, MacFUSE is a 32-bit kernel extension. As of 10.7, the OS X Kernel is 64-bit, MacFUSE is not supported, and therefore ProFUSE does not work. (Certain computers, particularly recent xserves and Mac Pros used a 64-bit kernel with Snow Leopard, so they would experience the same problem). It is unclear at this point whether MacFUSE will ever be updated to work with a 64-bit kernel. I have had luck using osxfuse -- the lion image opener app (1.0.1) is built against osxfuse. Installation:The profuse command needs to be run from the commandline (aka Terminal).profuse name_of_disk_image:· you can drag a file onto the terminal window if you don't want to type out the full pathname.· Unlike the linux/unix version, a mountpoint is not necessary (one will be created in the /Volumes/ folder for you).· In finder, choose Go->Computer (Shift-Command-C) to view mounted disks. Your ProDOS disk image should appear there.· By default, only local disks appear on the Finder desktop. To make ProDOS disk images show up on the Finder desktop, check "Connected servers" in the Finder preferences panel.
