Stepping Stones Description

Stepping Stones Is a really addictive game of strategy and knowledge that you can play as a family group, at parties, down the pub, and in schools and colleges. Initially written as a training aid it soon became apparent that the game itself is so much fun that it has appeal to everyone, whether at work or at home. It comes with a set of general knowledge questions that are more tuned to adults than kids, but other sets can be bought very cheaply (from www.teachershaven.co.uk). What's more, if you ever thought of getting extra tuition for your kids in school - try this first - learning really is fun with Stepping Stones. It was written as a training game to engage and reinforce the learning process for children in schools and adults in training establishments. The level of questions can be tuned to suit the target audience by authoring one's own files. The rules and conduct of the game can be varied to suit the establishment and maturity of the contestants. In play, the contestants (individuals or teams) try to capture squares on a board by correctly answering questions. The element of strategy comes from the need to forge one's own paths as well as blocking one's opponent's path. Randomness is added by having the stones move like pack ice splitting up while the game progresses, perhaps turning a winning path into a potential disaster - or will the pack ice slide favourably back into place? The advantage of this software over all the others is the flexibility built into it. Because the writers decided to have a Quizmaster in charge of the game (a natural consequence of the classroom environment) the decisions about right and wrong answers, whether to use alternating play or allow the winning contestant to maintain control of the board, and even decisions such as which set of rules apply to which game, and what the winning criterion is, have not had to be built into the program. This means the Quizmaster is free to choose to follow the suggested rules, or make variations of her own. Supplied games are: Stepping Stones, the Power of Three and No Questions Asked. The first two require the contestant answer questions to capture a 'Stone' and the last is a game of pure strategy (which we are convinced no-one can ever win). The most amazing addition is the ability to joggle the stones producing an effect like pack ice moving apart. This can be under control of the Quizmaster or automatic. What this does to the strategy needed to cross the board is amazing and forces the contestants to think, not just of getting the correct answers, but to choose stones to fix (answering correctly fixes a stone) to secure a path and frustrate their opponent. These games are very, very addictive. The game needs a question and answer file and it comes with a general knowledge one in English, however, we want to specifically target subject areas and our sister company Teachers Haven (www.teachershaven.co.uk) can offer QA files and program as a package. You can also write your own QA files, and a software tool is provided to help you set up and edit files. The screen is optimised for projection but even this is flexible and you can vary the colours to suit the environment.Platforms supported:Windows NT, Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows 98, Windows ME
