Shut Down Screensaver Description

The Shut Down Screensaver application was designed to be a small program that can be used as a screensaver or as a normal program. As a screensaver, you can configure it to either log you out or shut your computer off. Just copy the program into your Windows directory and it will appear on the list of available screensavers. As a normal program, you may find it necessary to rename or copy the program to change the file extension from ".scr" to ".exe". Windows has a nasty habit of ignoring all arguments passed to screensaver programs and replacing them with arguments it feels are more appropriate. Changing the extension is all that is necessary to insure your desired arguments survive. To use it as a normal program, use the LOGOFF, REBOOT, or SHUTDOWN arguments. You can add the FORCE argument if you don't want to give open documents a chance to be saved before closing. For example: shutdown.scr force shutdown Would force the computer to shut down without saving open files. If you run the program from a batch file, you'll need to use the "start" command if the program has an ".scr" extension: start shutdown.scr force shutdown Again, you will probably have to change the file extension from ".scr" to ".exe" to get this to work. FYI, when using LOGOFF, REBOOT, or SHUTDOWN, there is a two-second time delay before activation. This gives time for whatever program calls this one (like a batch file or scheduling program) to close. If you do rename the program to have an exe file extension, the screensaver mode can still be used. Screensaver configuration is invoked by using the "/c" argument or by running the program with no arguments. The screensaver can be activated via the "/s" argument. For example: shutdown.exe /s This program stores it's screensaver settings in the following registry section: HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareVB and VBA Program SettingsSHUTDOWN Note that this same section is used to store settings whether the program has an exe or scr file extension. If the program is given an entirely new name, the registry section's name will change as well. If the registry section does not exist, the default of a forced shutdown in 30 seconds is used.
