Portable Storage Explorer Description
Portable Storage Explorer is a simple-to-use software application that fetches information on removable devices on remote computers, such as USB, CD-ROM and DVD-ROM. It comes packed with an intuitive set of options that can be figured out by all types of users, even the ones with limited or no prior experience with networking utilities. Contrary to what its name implies, the app is not portable; the word simply refers to the fact that portable device data is taken into consideration for processing. Installing the tool takes little time and minimal effort. As far as the interface is concerned, the main application window has a simplistic layout and shows all options, so there are additional, hidden ones that can be found here. All you have to do is specify the remote PC's IP address, and either log in with your current credentials, or administrative user name and password. The scanning procedure starts with the click of a button, and the shown information can be copied to the Clipboard by using the global hotkey or opening the context menu. Portable Storage Explorer runs on a very low amount of CPU and RAM, so it does not affect the overall performance of the machine. It finishes a scan job pretty fast. However, it popped up errors and exited on multiple occasions during our evaluation, right after clicking the scanner button. Users should resort to more stable software program for finding out removable device data from remote machines. Reviewed by Elena Opris, last updated on May 23rd, 2014
