GI20Editor Description

A software editor for the Roland GI-20 GK-MIDI guitar interface GI20Editor is the only Roland GI-20's software editor available for the moment. GI20Editor can receive a MIDI bulk dump containing all the current settings from the device, display and modify any parameter and finally send data back to the unit. It can save a dump to a file and reload it, thus allowing backups. It can function as a MIDI repeater, to drive a hardware synthesizer connected to your PC but not to the GI-20. See the connection examples. Finally, it has a small MIDI implementation. To begin, click the Set devices button in the MIDI page to inform the editor about the kind of connections you are using (MIDI or USB). Your choices will be stored in the application preferences file. If the chosen devices are unavailable when you start GI20Editor, their name will be shown in red instead of green. When the GI-20 receives MIDI messages through a MIDI cable, selecting a patch in the editor will select the same patch on the GI-20.To get a bulk dump from the GI-20, just select Bulk on the unit and press Write. To send data back to the GI-20 use the Upload bulk button in the MIDI page and follow the instructions. Each time you execute an upload, a GI20Editor-default.gie file will be written next to the application executable. This file is then reloaded each time the editor starts, thus keeping it aligned to the GI-20 settings without having to execute a bulk dump.Use the Edit/Copy patch and Edit/Paste patch commands to easily duplicate patches. Use Edit/Swap patches to exchange data between them. You can save and load data using the GI20Editor native format (*.gie) or the standard SysEx dump (*.syx). In this latter case you won't be able to save your comments to the patches, since these are a GI20Editor extension.NOTE: The GI20Editor can only be purchased via the Mac App Store (the buy link redirects you to its App Store page). To purchase/download applications via the App Store an Apple account is required.
