Web Editor is a Mac OS X application that offers a highly versatile environment for HTML and CSS editing. The app makes it really easy to open or create a new project from the ground up, from a predefined theme, or from local files and folders. The main benefit of using Web Editor is that you can edit the HTML and CSS code of a webpage and preview it from the same window at the same time. Thus, the main coding workspace consists of three separate panes: one for previewing the page in realtime, one for editing HTML and another for CSS. What’s more, Web Editor’s user interface also includes an upper toolbar hosting a search bar to quickly find files in your project, as well as several buttons to open the preview pane in a separate window, hide the preview pane or display it differently. On the rightmost part of the upper bar, there is a button to open the webpage you’re working on in your default browser. You can also open it in a different browser by using the drop-down menu which lists all available browsers installed on your Mac. Moreover, the app offers two work modes: Edit or Browse. The Edit mode enables you to click on any frame in the preview pane of the webpage and get instant access to its corresponding code from the HTML and CSS panes below the page preview area. Furthermore, the Browse mode allows you to interact with the webpage as normal users would. Another important feature is the ability to edit files from a website which is already on the web. To do so, just choose the New Project > From Server option in the File menu, but you must add the site’s server in the Server Management window beforehand. Web Editor is very easy to work with and makes coding webpages a pleasure through its minimal, yet very efficient design. Its highlights are the built-in preview area, coding of projects from a remote server, numerous display options, and plugin integration.
