GiD Description

GiD is a full-featured and powerful desktop application that enables you to prepare, define and view numerical simulations based on various parameters. The GiD workflow consists of several flexible steps: preparation of analysis data, model discretization, simulation and the visualization of results. The data which can be included into a GiD project is based on materials, conditions, geometry and other attributes. Furthermore, GiD is able to generate meshes for various numerical methods such as particle based, meshless methods, finite volume or finite element. When defining the geometry of a project, GiD works very similarly to a Computer Aided Design (CAD) program. The difference is that GiD’s geometry is based on hierarchy, meaning that entities of higher level are built over the ones of lower level. You can also use advanced visualization tools (such as mirror effect, shadows and stereoscopic view) in order to understand the 3D geometry better. Before starting the analysis run, you can graphically visualize the geometry, mesh and conditions. One of the main advantages of using GiD is the fact that it can adapt to any numerical simulation code. GiD can actually read and write any number of formats. Another important aspect of GiD is that it can generate all data that's needed for analyzing scientific or engineering problems based on numerical methods.
