Apache Hive Description

Apache Hive is an open source and totally free software engineered to provides a data warehouse system designed especially for the Apache Hadoop project. Apache Hive is able to facilitate ad-hoc queries, the analysis of large datasets that are stored in Hadoop-compatible filesystems, and easy data summarization. The software provides a mechanism to query the data using a SQL-like language, called HiveQ, which lets traditional reduce/map programmers to plug in their custom reducers and mappers when it's inefficient and inconvenient to express this logic in HiveQL. Apache Hive is distributed as a standalone application via the Apache Software Foundation.
