XWin Server Description

The user interface of operating systems has greatly changed and evolved throughout the years, from command line navigation to touch-sensitive environments and multiple desktops. Amongst many other applications that try to enhance navigation and comfort, you can find XWin Server, which does not seem to be dedicated towards a single purpose.Making a poor first impressionIn fact, you might get to spend a significant amount of time going through its plain interface without actually figuring out how you can benefit from using it. Running it covers your whole screen with an opaque veil, on top of which lie several buttons. The first instinct might have you rushing towards what appears to be a multiple desktop feature, with up to four entries. However, nothing seems to trigger regardless of what button you press and how much. Two features to work with There are a few integrated apps that work. One of them is IceFox Browser, which gives you the possibility to connect to the virtual world via the Internet. Don't get too excited, because stability is an issue, and you can only bring one instance at a time. No tab support, bookmarks, or decent design were implemented. Aza Commander is the second and last available tool you can use. It's supposed to allow you to send commands to the server, but with the lack of any helpful hints or documentation, neither online or offline, you probably get prompted because of an invalid command. Confusing integrated file explorerYou can also press a “Places” button, but it only brings up IceFox Browser up again, and in case it is already running does not even get the window on top of all others. It claims to be a file manager, but with no file tree view it's difficult to figure out that you need to write down the full path of local directories in the address field. To end withAll things considered, XWin Server only manages to bring a handful of confusion and nothing more. With the lack of even the slightest hint of what it can do and such a difficult and poorly designed interface, it only gets your attention in trying to find hidden secrets and functions that are completely missing.
