Taxonomy Extension for Microsoft® SharePoint® enables documents and list items in a SharePoint-based portal to be organized cross-site as part of a connected content network and knowledge model. SharePoint items are associated by category using one or more custom taxonomies. Users can organize documents and other portal contents in the way that they think and work - independend of the storage location. With that extension the SharePoint portal really can become a place to share knowledge as content. Break out of the hierarchy of SharePoint sites: Sharepoint by Default provides one level of taxonomy only: the site navigation structure. But users think different. Multiple topic based views of the same content are required – independent of the storage location, list/Library or content type. Overview of advantages: Related Content is automatically shown in the detail view of your items. For example a detail view of a product description will show items that correspond to the same category like a product-PDF, accessories, pricelist and the contact person.
