Sound Capture Description

Sound Capture is a command-line utility that enables users to record audio to MP3 from the sound card. It includes a few configuration parameters. While most users prefer a graphical interface for performing a task such as audio recording, some of them prefer command-line apps, since a few entered parameters are usually enough to get the job done in no time. Sound Capture does not contain a setup pack, so it can be directly run from any location on the hard disk. Plus, you can save it to a USB flash disk or similar storage unit, in order to run it on any machine with minimum effort. After calling its process from a Command Prompt dialog, Sound Capture creates an MP3 file in the primary drive root with recorded stream from the sound card. Before doing so, it is possible to specify the sound card input, MP3 bit rate, sample rate and bit rate mode (constant or variable), as well as establish the file name, ID3 tag title, and set the length to be read as seconds or minutes. You may record a 5-minute or 30-second file. As we have expected, Sound Capture is light on the system resources, using a minimal amount of CPU and RAM. It has a good response time and works smoothly, without hanging, crashing or showing error dialogs. However, the tool has not been updated for a long time, and it does not work on newer operating systems. Reviewed by Elena Opris, last updated on September 11th, 2013
