Pop Subtitle Editor Description

Pop Subtitle Editor is a simple-to-use utility that allows you to seamlessly create subtitles and to embed them in your movies; it can be handled even by less experienced individuals. The interface of the application is clean and pretty intuitive. Opening a video file can be done by using only the file browser, since the 'drag and drop' method is not supported. So, you can preview the clip in a built-in media player. Once you write text, you can click the 'play' button to basically record the start frame for the subtitle; clicking the 'pause' button marks the end frame. On the right side of the window, you can check out the timestamp for each line of the subtitle. Several configuration options are available through Pop Subtitle Editor when it comes to the font; you can lift it, bring it to the top, or adjust the alpha level. It is also possible to navigate back and forth within the clip by using a slider. Unfortunately, you cannot jump to a specific frame by writing the time position or frame number. From the 'Font Settings' area you can customize additional text preferences in regard to the font name, style, size, effects, color and script. Once the project is done, you can save it for further editing, or export it to file (AVI, MPEG, or WMV) with the embedded subtitle. The program lets you specify the output directory, format (original or custom), resolution, frame rate, codec, as well as audio channels, bit rate, frequency and format (e.g. MP3, PCM, ULAW). Settings can be restored to their default values. Although the application uses a very high amount of system resources, it takes a really long time to convert a video. Plus, the media player is quite small and you cannot properly view text. On the plus side, Pop Subtitle Editor has a good response time, includes a help file and is easy to figure out. But it needs some serious improvements in the optimization department. No recent updates have been made. Reviewed by Elena Opris, last updated on February 8th, 2013
