OSD Description

Early generation monitors did not come with OSD (on screen display) capabilities of the modern devices and there was little room for configuring them. The OSD feature permits the device to show an image on top of the regular display and it is used for providing access to various customization settings for the device. OSD functionality It may be used for anything from showing the volume level or contrast and brightness intensity to full blown menus that allow the user to configure the device to suit their needs, which is the case for modern television sets. With modern monitors the OSD capabilities of the device permit the user to adjust various settings and to create and switch between different display profiles. However, usability and functionality of the feature varies from manufacturer to manufacturer. In the case of the OSD program things are extremely simple, given that the application has been designed to work with monitors that have no support for on-screen display. Measure the monitor frequencies As such, the product is able to measure the vertical and horizontal synchronization frequencies of the display device. By showing this information is on the monitor the tool achieves on-screen display capabilities. Additional options present in the product refer to adjusting the accuracy. This can be done at a very basic level, though. On-screen display for old monitors OSD is designed to work on old generation operating systems and monitors. Thus, it does not work on newer operating systems. Also, its development has ceased and the developer recommends the use of PowerStrip instead.
