Modiac MP4 to MKV Converter is a free video converter. It can be used to convert MP4 files into MKV files. The app can only open MP4 files, and it can convert those into MKV files which are encoded using either XviD, MPEG-4, H.264/AVC, Microsoft MPEG-4 Variant Version 3, or VP8. The converters by Modiac use an original interface. The first window that you will see will ask you to load a file. You can use the "Load" button to add files or you can simply drag them onto the window. When you do that, the screen changes and it shows the added files, and two fields at the bottom. There, you can set the output folder for your files and the conversion mode. Under conversion mode, there is only one option: MKV. But if you click on Advanced, you can customize the conversion process quite thoroughly. There, you can change settings for the encoder, decoder, adjust the video and audio and modify subtitle settings. In my testing, I converted a 2-minute MP4 file that I had downloaded from YouTube and converted into MKV using the H.264 codec. The process took a bit over 2 minutes and the resulting file played great on VLC. I didn't notice any problems with it. The converted file looked just as good as the original one.
