Editor's review: This is a software tool that helps make regular web site updates easy. Macromedia Contribute 3 is an easy to use Web publishing program. It is positioned for making editing a Web site easy, no more difficult than using a word processor. The tools like Dreamweaver are more useful to the first time designers, yet complex enough for everyday users who strive to keep the sites up to date. Contribute 3 tries to address this niche. It is simple enough for that use, as also for setting up a small and static site for the first time. No manual coding should become necessary. The tool comes with an intuitive interface. The page to be edited appears on the right of the work area. A toolbar, sensitive to the context, appears above this work area. On the left is a panel that lists all the pages being worked on. It also has a help section that tells you how to do certain things. The tutorial makes it all very simple and you should be able to get productive after a few minutes of time with it. Before you get started, you will need to set up a connection to the site and the pages you are going to work on. Contribute provides its own connection key system. The site`s administrator can distribute encrypted keys for contributors that allow access to the sections a he/she needs to work on. Once you`ve reached the page to work on, a click on the Edit button gets the action started. The toolbars` navigation controls are substituted by the editing commands. Icons for controlling alignment, indenting, bulleting, numbering and text and background colors are easily done. A range of point-sizes and fonts can be selected through the drop-down menus.
