Unfortunately, many video players don’t offer native support for this video format and, therefore, require you to install additional codecs and decoders. A simpler solution to play MKV video files is using this application. MKV File Player is a lightweight video player that lets you load and play MKV (Matroska video) files. Its obvious main characteristic is simplicity. It offers only basic video file playing functions and just a few additional options: controlling the audio volume and delay, the playback speed and the embedded subtitles. That’s all. There's no playlist management, no audio equalizer, no interface customization possibilities, not even support for playing other types of video files except for MKV. Anyway, this doesn’t mean that this program is useless. It’s actually a great choice for many people looking just to play MKV files without being interested in any fancy extra functions. A little aspect that I like a lot about this program is the fact that it lets you assign keyboard shortcuts for performing available actions. It’s definitely much easier just to press the P key when you want to pause the playback of the loaded video than to select “Pause” from the Playback menu.
