Impulse Response Description

If one claps once in a concert hall, the brief "impulse" signal created by one's hands will reverberate throughout the hall. This response to the impulse allows us to categorize the "filter function" that the concert hall applies to an input signal. We can start to understand filters and convolution in the same way, looking at what filter functions do when applied to very localized functions. Specifically, students see that the filter "smears" the energy from that impulse in a neighborhood around the impulse by placing an impulse and dragging a filter over it. Get Impulse Response and give it a try to see just how useful it can actually be for you!
