Evil Player Description

Evil Player is a very simple media player that is able to handle the most popular audio formats out there, while remaining impressively friendly with computer resources. The main thing you'll notice when using Evil Player is its simplicity, as the interface is so basic that it'll shock you. The main window will only show you the name of the songs in the playlist, so there are no other buttons to control the playback, no toolbars, no menus, just a simple list. More options are available when right clicking in the main window as besides the usual controls of a song, be they play, stop, previous, next and record, you also get access to the configuration screen. The 'Options' menu is the secret key to the world of customization, as it holds a bunch of settings regarding the music folder, the time display, the window transparency, the theme (yes, Evil Player supports themes too), the file associations, plug-ins and the language. Each of these sub-categories come with its very own set of options. For instance, there's even a tool to configure the ESC key function, so although it's so simple, the software still include tons of features. Evil Player even supports a so-called 'Slim Mode' that can be accessed via the title bar. This running mode basically means that the only thing you'll see is the title bar, along with little information regarding the played songs. The application can play most popular audio formats, including WAV, MP3 and OGG. In addition, it supports BASS plug-ins and radio streaming, getting along pretty well with the popular SHOUTcast. If we were to name a thing we liked the most, we would choose the minimum amount of resources it needs to offer us so many goodies. On the other hand, though, so much simplicity might be annoying after a while, so an interface with at least the most basic controls would be a major improvement. All in all, Evil Player is one of the best audio players on the market and although it's so simple, it remains a powerful solution. Reviewed by Bogdan Popa, last updated on December 17th, 2012
