BootMaster Windows XP & 2000 Rescue Disk Description

This rescue disk inlcudes BootMaster Partition Recovery (Partition Recovery Software), our DOS-based NTFS file undeletion and recovery utility (NTFS Browser For DOS), BootMaster Diagnostics, DOS/NT dual boot capability, an extensive help system, and more. Installation: You will need one floppy disk. Download the installation executable to the 2000 or XP system and execute it. After the BootMaster Plus rescue disk has been made, run the batch file A:NTDRV.BAT to install the NT boot files to the floppy disk. The basic download carries a Demo License. You can use the program to evaluate your problem and verify that BootMaster will be able to repair it prior to registering. Support is available from us during this evaluation phase. Registration will enable the Rescue Disk's applications to write a recovered MBR or Boot Sector to your disk, run a repair script (provided by our support), or recover files from an NTFS partition. Following registration the user will receive an email containing a 10 digit registration code. To register the product simply start BootMaster from the on-disk menu (USB Disk Repair), and select item 2 - "Enter Registration Code" - from the startup menu when it appears. The registration dialog can also be entered by pressing CTRL+R from any point in the program. Features List Dual Boot Floppy Disk The Windows XP & 2000 Rescue Disk contains custom boot code (Boot Up Computer) which enables booting a system either to DOS or NT (XP/W2000). The disk is delivered with FreeDOS system files pre-installed (at the user's discretion, the FreeDOS files may be replaced with MS-DOS system files - for more information see the file CHANGEDOS.TXT, which is located in the root directory of the recue disk). The NT boot files (BOOT.INI, NTLDR, & NTDETECT.COM) are backed up to the rescue disk during installation. The dual boot capability is a powerful aid in troubleshooting and repairing some common Windows XP/2000 startup problems, and in many cases will enable booting for an XP or 2000 system that can no longer boot from the hard disk. Virus-aware Rescue Disk Boot sector viruses are now very rare, especially on NT-based systems, yet they remain a real potential hazard. The BootMaster Windows XP & 2000 Rescue Disk is able to detect infection of itself by a boot virus (Copy files from iPod Touch to PC) and to clean the infection, returning the diskette to a normal uninfected state. Access to NTFS partitions from DOS The BootMaster PLUS Windows XP & 2000 Rescue Disk includes the NTFS Browser For DOS application, which allows an NTFS file system to be browsed from DOS. Deleted files can be undeleted and normal files copied out to a FAT partition. Directory strcture can be preserved and full long file name compatability is provided. FAT file systems may be browsed from the DOS prompt. Partition Recovery The XP & 2000 Rescue Disk provides the BootMaster Partition Recovery application for the rebuilding of partition tables and restoration of partition boot sectors. BootMaster Diagnostics A powerful partition diagnostics application which allows BootMaster technical support to pinpoint the most subtle and difficult problems. Safe Master Boot Record Backup & Restore Backing up the Master Boot Record can be a powerful technique that saves time in restoring a computer to normal operation. In practice, however, MBR backups have created more more problems that they have solved. Every month our tech support sees 2 or 3 cases of computers which were suddenly rendered inoperable by the "Boot Sector Inoculation" feature of Norton Anti-Virus, which overwrote good MBRs with replacements containg incorrect partition pointers. We have designed a safe MBR backup/restore procedure that cannot make that kind of mistake. Partition table pointers are verified to be correct before a backup MBR is written to disk. Extensive on-disk help system Fancy help systems rendered in HTML or PDF formats are fine, but they are are not much use when working at the DOS level. For the XP & 2000 Rescue Disk we have provided a detailed help system based on a simple DOS hypertext system implemented with the Flint River Reader. Simple step-by-step instructions are provided for the most common tasks, and the full capabilities of the applications is described in easy-to-read tect with useful graphic illustrations. Timely email support The BootMaster products have been designed for safety and ease of use. Indeed, 75% of our customers solve their problems quickly, easily and on their own without ever requesting support. But some problems are more difficult to solve than others, and in those cases we offer techical support that is competitive with best available in the industry. Users can take advantage of one-on-one consultation with a data recovery professional with 20 years experience, even before the product is registered.
