Big File Editor Description

Big File Editor is a free and open-source text editor, specially designed for programmers who regularly deal with large-sized files, such as huge SQL dumps or access logs. The installation procedure takes little time to finish and does not require special attention from the user. When it is done you can access the user-friendly interface to view a regular window with a minimalistic layout, resembling the look of Windows Notepad, but with less options. Files can be opened using the file browser only, since the drag-and-drop feature is not supported. The status bar shows the current line in the editor, along with the file number. It is possible to jump to a specific line number, use a common search tool for words, as well as to save the new modifications to the same file or new one. There are no other notable options provided by this program. Keyboard shortcuts are supported, though. Big File Editor runs on a very low amount of CPU and RAM, so it does not affect the overall performance of the computer. Since it can be minimized to the taskbar, it does not interrupt other user activity. We have not come across any issues throughout our evaluation, since the app did not hang, crash or pop up error dialogs. Although it is not resourceful, Big File Editor provides a simple solution for viewing, editing and saving large files, backed up by an uncomplicated structure and options, and its simplicity and effectiveness should satisfy the preferences of users.
