reg_scrn Description

Reg_scrn is a program designed to be run in MSDOS (ie floppy boot) to access NT type registry database; namely (Default). This hive is the Default User settings and it contains the settings for the screensaver that is used when the Logon Screen appears. This program will find these settings and edit them to whatever the user wants them to be. Equivalent Regedit.exe key path is: HKEY_USERSDefaultControl PanelDesktop. The Key Default is actually a file called DEFAULT. It is a registry hive in the path %System%System32Config This is the file that reg_scrn opens and edits. The value names are: SCRNSAVER.EXE; ScreenSaverTimeOut; ScreenSaverActive. Altering the value name SCRNSAVER.EXE data to say cmd.exe will make the Command Prompt appear instead of the screensaver. Thus a user can run commands on the system without even loggin on. This is good for people who have lost there password or to sort out booting problems. An important consideration is that if the system drive is formatted to NTFS then the program wont be able to access the drive. You would need to run NTFSPRO v5 with the /S switch pointing to the MSDOS command line interpreter eg: NTSFPRO /Sa:Command.com. Once NTFSPRO is loaded you can access the NTFS volumes as you would FAT volumes. So then you can run reg_scrn.exe.
