quietHDD Description
quietHDD is a lightweight and portable application that enables you to modify the APM and AAM settings of your hard drive, and try to reduce noise. It comes packed with just a few options that can be easily adjusted. Since installation is not a prerequisite, you can drop the executable file to any location on the hard disk and just click it to run. It is also possible to save quietHDD to a USB flash drive or similar storage unit, in order to use it on any machine seamlessly and without prior installers. What's important to take into account is that the Windows registry does not get updated with new entries, and files are not left behind on the HDD after removing the utility. Once initialized, quietHDD creates an icon in the system tray area. It is possible to disable system suspend and HDD APM. Several options are available in the Settings panel. You can adjust the AC and DC values for APM and AAM, customize the same values for testing, as well as disable APM and/or AAM control. The application has minimal impact on system performance, running on a small amount of CPU and RAM. It has a good response time and works well, without causing the operating system to hang, crash or pop up error dialogs. We have not come across any issues throughout our evaluation. quietHDD offers a simple solution when it comes to modifying APM and AAM settings for your hard drive, without integrating complex options.
