pixsCompiler Description

The pixsCompiler application was developed to be a small tool that will allow you combine several photo images into a single composite image file. My particular interest was to create a single file that could be sent by email rather than a collection of photo files. However composite images do have a much wider usefulness. pixsCompiler is designed to process JPEG images only. To create a composite image from digital photos, firstly the large images must be reduced in size. Secondly, individual images have to be painted onto a single image canvas according to options specified by the user. pixsCompiler resizes images in two stages When the file is dropped it is converted and resampled to a more manageable size and saved as a bitmap. Resampling produces good quality images but is a relatively slow process. The second stage is when the composite image is created and the image has to be sized to the users requirements. In creating the composite image, the user can elect to use resampling which is slower but produces a better quality image or simple bitmap resizing which is much quicker but is normally of lower quality. The quality of an image produced by simple resizing depends largely on the difference between the two sizes. If the initial size is the same or near to the size required for the composite, then simple resizing will produce a satisfactory result. However the initial reduction dictates the flexibility the user has in adjusting the size used in the composite as expanding the size of an image, using either method, will not give good results.
