XF Designer 2010 Description

XF Designer is a user-friendly, easy to learn layout editor that handles with ease all the complex parameters required for professional publishing. Templates created in XF Designer are based on open standards such us XSL-FO and SVG and can be used at runtime to format any XML data. Consistent, automated layout is mandatory for today’s corporate communication materials. As opposed to the average report generation tool, an electronic typesetting engine performs complicated tasks that make your publications look modern and professional: · Layout headers and footers which can be different for first, even and odd pages. · Automatic layout of footnotes should be performed while following proximity rules. · Text should be handled according to widows and orphans rules. Keep and break rules should also be satisfied. · Full color support (RGB, CMYK and Pantone) is a must your documents must be printed. · Text can be mixed with raster graphics (images) and vectorial graphics (charts and barcodes). Professional text handling includes the ability to hyphenate, apply kerning, and handle of complex scripts (Arabic, Hebrew, etc.) All these requirements are no longer reserved for traditional printed materials like magazines and newspapers. Today’s statements, brochures and newsletters have borrowed this knowledge to create compelling materials designed to make content more accessible, run effective marketing campaigns, or simply present the information better. XF Designer uses public standards such as XSL-FO and SVG. These standards are defined by W3C (Word Wide Web Consortium), the same organization that manages the specifications for HTML, PNG or XSLT. Users are no longer locked in a proprietary technology and have a choice of rendering engines (including free ones) which can produce the final output. Using a simple drag and drop interface, XF Designer enables creation of XML templates within a short time frame. The element(s) that you modify will be visible immediately in your document. Main features: Easy to Use Interface: Basic editing actions include changing the font, text and background colors, control alignment and indentation, resize page margins, resize table columns, insert or delete table rows, resize images and graphics and more. For the advanced users, the Properties dialog bar allows complete control of hundreds of properties for each object. Drag and Drop: The user has a drag and drop interface for defining the output. It is very comfortable to use because all you have to do is to open an existing XML document containing data and drag and drop fields onto the design surface. To define templates, XF Designer can work with both simple XML files or with complex data sources defined in Ecrion Data Architect. Multilanguage Interface: XF Designer is available in English, French and German. Adding other languages is very easy! The user interface is also very customizable with support for several color schemes. Spell-checking support for 17 languages is also provided. OEM Partners have also access to a wide set of branding options including the ability to customize the look and feel, set predefined locations for loading and saving reports and more. Rich Set of Features: XF Designer provides support for using charts, images, tables, barcodes, geolocation maps, 3D objects and rich media (such as Flash) in your templates. Documents can also contain Forms. Although it contains top of the line features, XF Designer continues to be easy to use for both technical and non-technical users. XML Editing: The XML Editor implements full undo/redo support, syntax highlighting, autocomplete and autofill for XSL-FO and XSL. It also includes menu commands to verify the XML syntax, assign XSL stylesheets and run XSL transformations, pretty print, one step PDF generation, etc. XML Tree and XPath: Based on the XPath language, XF Designer is able to perform structure-aware searches and replacements of certain patterns of elements inside the document. Advanced programmers can decide to use any XSLT parser they prefer including parsers with support for XSLT 2.0 (such as Saxon).
