WinROX Description

When it comes to compression utilities, there are a few representative names that come to mind. However, there are various tools out there that can be used for the same purpose, namely to create and manage archive files. WinROX is one of them, a useful and easy to handle application designed to assist you in generating ROX and RAX archive files, with additional support for various other file types, including ZIP, RAR, GZ, TGZ, TAR, CAB, ARC, ARJ, LZH and LHA. The application is intuitive enough to help beginners get accustomed to using it from the very first interaction. It enables you to explore the contents of any input archive file, but no other action is allowed (for instance, you cannot open a file within the archive) unless the contents are extracted first. Aside from its archive viewing functions, the application is capable of generating ROX and RAX archive files, as well as convert other files to one of these two formats. This process is not difficult at all, since all you have to do is choose the files and folders to be compressed and customize the compression mode. Optionally, comments can be added to the output and you can protect it using a custom password. WinROX comes with a set of dedicated tools for managing the contents of ZIP archives ('RoX ZIP Editor' can delete files within the archive, add new files, modify deflation options and more), exploring and editing 7z SFX archives, extracting MSI files and extracting ROX and RAX files. To make things even more easy and comfortable, it features shell integration, allowing you to quickly launch it from the context menu in Windows, as well as file association options. With support for the Zlib and NST5 compression algorithms, WinROX provides you with a handy compression tool. While its popularity is not as high as that of the big players in this category, this open-source application can prove to be a viable alternative that is worth a try.
