From VytalNet : VytalVault is an electronic vaulting system that allows you to backup personal computers, workstations, and server systems to a variety of destination types. One destination option is a WAN-based VytalVault Server System (VSS) using either analog or digital communication lines. Other destinations include a LAN-based VytalVault Server System, SCSI tape or networked disk device.Once a backup task is defined, the scheduling system works "lights out" and requires no further human intervention. For the user it is just that simple. In addition, this automated process significantly reduces or eliminates the handling of backup tapes and ensures that consistent backups are performed with well-defined generation and retention histories.A restore task is performed quickly and effortlessly with a few simple mouse clicks. No more worries about contacting a Systems Administrator and handling tapes, cartridges or diskettes. You rest easy knowing your data is safe and accessible with VytalVault.Using our unique delta processing technology, the VytalVault Client System (VCS) determines the actual portions of data that have been modified since your last backup, then compresses that data for transmission to the target destination. The combination of delta processing and compression technologies reduces transmission requirements to a fraction of the data's original size. Effective compression ratios of 1000:1 have been achieved. These huge effective compression ratios result in cost-effective backups over relatively low-speed communications lines. A number of data security features are included in the VytalVault Client System. First, the backup file data may be permanently encrypted using a password known only to the user. This data remains encrypted while stored on the VytalVault Server System. Second, communications between VCS and VSS can be encrypted for transmission over public networks. Finally, every user must be authenticated by the VytalVault Server System with an account, username and password before any backup or restore task will be initiated.The integrity of your data is verified using a Cyclic Redundancy Check (CRC) feature. This check is performed twice - first by the VytalVault Client and once again by the Server Systems. This feature also applies to backups targeted to local devices such as tape or disk.
