Supports Wavefront .OBJ, VRML 2.0/97 and StereoLitho (.STL) file formats. Pros: CAD systems usually produce quite heavy files of models of real life components and assemblies. However, one needs to exchange these models for viewing by others, publication purposes and several other reasons. Exchanging these heavy/large files is a difficult proposition when systems are not totally integrated. They are a problem even when these other systems are networked together. What is really needed is being able to see the realistic model without a lot of embedded design information that are not required for 3D viewing. One of the ways this lightening of the models can be done is by reducing the number of faces created by the original rendering system. This application does that while maintaining the look & feel of the model. Reduced model is a balance of details retained and the model file size. The reduced file then can be used in virtual reality or real time systems without any loss of sense of reality. One could view the original vertices, planes used to model it, smoothened view etc. One could rotate the model around all three axes to get a complete visualization feel of the object. Formats supported for interchange are the Wavefront, OBJ, VRML 2.0 and STL file formats. The reduction process is a simple one click process, does not need any technical knowledge. The application picks up the necessary parameters from the data available in the input model. The user interface is really simple and easy to use- a completely uncluttered tool bar. Cons: Viewing based on complete rotation driven by the mouse or a movie base approach would have been nicer. But then they are not problems really but are nice to have features. Overall: Well designed application with very simple and easy to use interface and little learning time, this is a 5 star candidate. Publisher's description:
