USB Drive Disabling Software Description

Editor's review: A tool that can protect your USB drive and data stored on it. It also performs real time monitoring of the USB drive. Pros: The USB Drive Disabling Software is essentially software that monitors and restricts access to the local USB drive. It will block access (or allow access according to user permissions) to computers trying to access the local USB drive over a network. It also monitors who and when and what kind of activity is being performed on the USB drive at any given time. A Data Leakage protection package alerts the user when any USB drive is connected or released on the network. A record is maintained of the monitoring activity that can be viewed later for reference. Transferred data from the USB drive can also be recorded for analysis (for example what kind of content is a particular user accessing). It allows for fine tuned access control and permission settings. It also records the type (hardware information), capacity, connection speed etc. related to each USB device. Cons: The protection feature is a good one, but the simple truth is that Windows can also be used to protect the drive at some level. Most users may not want the advanced protection that is being offered here (i.e. low cost to utility benefit). Alerting of USB connection / disconnection is not an essential feature as it is already provided by Windows. For real administrators who manage LANs there is not enough functionality to make it attractive. Overall: 4 stars. It does what is required off it. But it may be overkill in terms of the fact that users who typically use USB drives do not frequently happen to be in LANs and remote access to the drive can be managed through Windows anyway. The advanced permissions and access control may not be necessary for most users. Publisher's description:
