UMD Chat Description
UMD Chat is a LAN messaging client that allows members of the same network to chat freely. With customizable interface and skin support, UMD Chat is nothing more than a regular network chat, providing almost the same features we've seen in other similar apps. For example, the program supports emoticons and images that can be embedded into messages, links and avatars. The options menu comes with numerous features concerning both the network and the user information, but you can also change the skin, sounds, language, groups and avatars. There are multiple predefined chat modes, such as “Available”, “Busy”, “Away” and “Do no disturb”, each coming with its very own settings and notifications. Users can easily change them using the dedicated options available under the “Chat Mode” tab in the settings screen. Private messaging is also supported and right clicking on a user group lets you send a sound signal to the whole group, an alert message or a private message. Although you can customize any message with emoticons and images, UMD Chat provides quite an uncanny way to do it. Every time you write a new message you have to right-click the text field and choose the “Insert Smile” option and only then pick the emoticon you wish to use. You don't need a super fast computer to run the application and UMD Chat seems to get along with all Windows versions on the market without any issue. All in all, UMD Chat is a nice way to chat with your network buddies, but it still needs a bunch of improvements in many key areas. It does its job pretty well though.
