Trend Micro RootkitBuster Description

Trend Micro RootkitBuster is a security utility that looks into critical areas of the system for existing rootkits, as the name implies. It does not require installation and is very simple to use, since its features are limited. You can drop the executable file in any location on the hard disk to run it. Otherwise, you can save Trend Micro RootkitBuster to a USB flash drive or similar storage unit to scan any machine without prior installers. Note that the device must not be read-only, since the application creates some log files. An important aspect to take into account is that the Windows registry does not get new entries. However, an SYS file is left behind after removal. The interface is based on a clean and simple window that provides quick access to Trend Micro RootkitBuster's main features. All you have to do is select the system areas you want to scan, such as files or Master Boot Records (MBR), registry entries, processes, drivers, services, Kernel code patches, operating system hooks, ports, and file streams. The scanner uses low CPU and RAM, and may take a while to finish, depending on the complexity of the target. But it does not interrupt user activity, since it can be minimized to the taskbar. In the list of results you can view the type, file path and default action for each threat. Simply select the ones you want to fix, and ask Trend Micro RootkitBuster to delete the files. Log details are recorded to a plain text document. We have not come across any issues in our tests, since the program did not hang, crash or pop up errors. Although the configuration possibilities are limited, Trend Micro RootkitBuster offers a simple and effective solution to detecting and removing rootkits, which can be used even by novices.
