Tag Description

Tag provides you with a lightweight and simple application that you can use to add metadata information to multiple audio files. Although it only runs in the command console, it features a simple syntax, which makes it suitable for any type of user, whether it is a beginner or a professional. The application comes with support for multiple tagging schemes, such as ID3v1, ID3v2 (used for reading and removing tags), Vorbis and Flac comments, APE (versions 1.0 and 2.0) and Lyrics3 2.0. Its main purpose is to automatically add tags to the input files by analyzing their name. In this case, your files must be named using one of the standard schemes (if this condition is not met, Tag provides an option for fast mass renaming of files to match the user-defined scheme). An alternative is to specify the desired parameters yourself or read the tag information from a tag.INI or a CDDB file. Tag enables you to enter details such as the title, the artist, the album, track number, year, genre and additional comments. One of its advantages is that you can process multiple files simultaneously. For instance, a collection of audio files that belong to the same album can be assigned the album name with a single operation. In order to ease your work even more, Tag supports wildcards in directory names. The program comes with options for displaying tag contents and other information about the supported files in the source directory. Furthermore, you can use it to copy tag information from a file or permanently remove existing metadata information for the input audio files. Other additional options enable you to output the contents of an embedded cuesheet to a file or write tag details to STDOUT, as well as create playlists for your tracks and sort them by duration or track number. Recursive search, incremental track numbering, text formatting options (capitalization, remove / replace special characters etc.), album title customization are other advantages that this application provides you with. To conclude with, Tag is a simple, yet handy tool designed to help you edit or replace tag information for your audio files collection. And since it comes without a price tag, it is worth trying.
