KG Updated: 27 Mar 2013 Downloads: 25 (1 last week) Overview With SuperEasy Video Converter you can convert your videos to most popular formats for playing on devices which can only read specific file types. With it you can also do full or partial DVD Ripping in just a few steps. Using the internal video player you can watch a preview of the file that is being converted. Installation To install it you just have to follow the instructions and proceed with each step, but there is nothing really important there to watch out for. On the first step you can click on a button to see the system requirements, which will redirect you to the requirements page from the publisher’s website. Surprisingly, in that page the requirements are different that the requirements shown on the main page for this product, so it’s hard to tell what is really needed for it to run properly. What is safe to say though is that the supported operating systems are Windows XP, Vista and 7. Interface All the features in the window are in the form of 3D graphics and most of them are animated. The icons in the main window represent categories for easier navigating and converting. Depending on which player you want to convert your file for you can choose the appropriate icon and select a more specific option from the sub-menu that appears. The category columns include Portable Media Players, Game Consoles, Computers, Internet Video Formats and High Definition Formats. When you choose the type that you want your video file to be converted to, the main area will change and you can then pick your files for conversion. The window on the right is for previewing the output file while the conversion process takes place. Pros There are many supported devices and profiles available to convert your files to, including various iPod formats, iPhone, Sony PSP and Playstation 3, Nintendo Wii, Xbox 360, MP4 or 3GP compatible mobile phones and DVD Players. It is also compatible with many video file containers, like Xvid, Divx, Nero Digital, WMV, h.264 and MPEG-4 encoded files, flash video files (.flv) and a lot more. Cons The user interface is quite buggy, as it crashes often and has glitches (sometimes it goes blank if you change it with another application’s window and then switch back). Hopefully, future versions will fix these annoyances. Alternatives Super Converter is probably one of the best file converting applications with which you can not only convert videos, but audio files as well. It has loads of encoding options to tweak if you’re an expert and know exactly what you want (bitrate, channels, aspect ratio, sampling frequency, frames/sec, video scale size and the list goes on), plus almost every existing kind of video and audio file is supported, both input and output-wise. Total Video Converter (Win, Mac) is fighting with Super Converter for the title of the best conversion software, as they both have about the same list of features and are equally good. FormatFactory is yet another alternative more than worth looking into. Conclusion Although this is a nice program with decent features, it doesn’t really have something that makes it differ among other software used for converting videos to different formats. The fact that the video converters niche offers many strong competitors, means it’s a good idea to try it thoroughly before deciding on buying it.
