SoftCab Webcam Spy is a piece of software designed to provide users with video surveillance capabilities so as to help them improve their home security.Simple interfaceThe application comes with an easy-to-use, intuitive interface, thus allowing users to start the video surveillance of a location with a few mouse clicks. The app comes with support for motion detection, so that it would make recordings only when needed. Moreover, it allows users to easily adjust the sensitivity of the detector, so as to ensure that they indeed record only relevant videos. Record both videos and photosThe application can be used both for the recording of videos and for snapping photos when motion is detected, and can also record audio, provided that a microphone is connected to the computer. Photos can be saved in either BMP or JPEG formats. Users can also set the application to flash the icon in System Tray when detecting motion, as well as to show a small pop-up window with the video when detecting motion. Launch external apps or sound alarmsThe application can be set to launch external applications once it has detected motion, and can also ring an alarm, should users choose to go for this option. Users are also provided with the option to easily access any of the previous recordings, while also putting event logs at their disposal directly on its main window. Fast, reliable operationsDuring our testing, the application performed quite fast, without putting a string on the system. However, some might find it as offering limited customization options when compared to other surveillance applications. In conclusion, SoftCab Webcam Spy is an easy-to-use, intuitive application for home surveillance and video recording, which provides users with fast access to previous recordings, while also allowing them to only snap photos when motion is detected.
