Serial Loopback Description

Serial Loopback is a straightforward piece of kit whose goal is to run tests on serial ports by sending them random data bytes and checking whether these are returned or not. Installing the tool is done within a few clicks, and it does not require special attention from the user, since it integrates standard buttons. Serial Loopback's interface is made from a regular window with a plain and simple layout, which is not attractive but easy to handle. There are no complicated elements about it. So, all you have to do is select the serial port number from the drop-down list, and start the test with the click of a button. Results return the signal quality, errors and bytes for each rate. There are no other options provided by this utility. For example, you cannot copy data to the Clipboard, print or save it to file for closer inspection. Serial Loopback runs on a very low amount of CPU and RAM, so it does not put a strain on computer performance. Since it can be minimized to the system tray area, it does not interrupt normal user activity either. No error dialogs were shown in our tests, and the app did not hang or crash. Although it is not particularly resourceful, Serial Loopback is to the point. Thanks to its intuitive layout and overall simplicity of options, the tool should please all computer users (especially advanced users) looking to run tests on serial ports in a comfortable working environment.
