SQLSafe is designed to be a software tool that will automatically detect changes to your SQL Server objects and checks them into Source Safe. The program install includes a windows service and a front end user application. The user application allows you to specify which database(s) to check for changes and where in Visual Source Safe to track those changes. Each database and source safe location combination is considered a SQLSafe monitor, and can be configured to run at specified minute intervals. For example, if you have a database for an application under development, where many changes are taking place to the table structure or stored procedures, you can specify a 5 minute interval between checks for changes. This means that every 5 minutes SQLSafe will look at every table, stored procedure, trigger, function, and view in your database and check in any changes it finds. If you also have a production database that rarely undergoes any changes, you may want to specify a 12 or 24 hour interval between checks. When you specifiy a source safe location for the database objects, SQLSafe will initially create subfolders for each of the database objects. When the monitor runs for the first time, SQLSafe check in a new script file (with a .sql extension) into the correct subfolder for every new table, stored procedure, function, view and trigger. The contents of the script file is the same as what you see when editing the object using enterprise manager (or SQL Server Managmenet Studio if you are using SQL Server 2005).
