Probe Me! Description

The Probe Me! application was designed to be a Winsock "port probe" program with a slight twist. Unlike most other port probes, it doesn't check someone else's computer, and it doesn't try to connect to a socket. It works by actually trying to open each port on your computer as a server socket to see if it can be done. If the socket can't be opened, that means some other program is using it. It will try to open every Winsock port on your machine from 1 to 65535 in both TCP and UDP modes. If the port can't be opened, it will be listed as "in use". Note this program doesn't try to just CONNECT to the port, it actually opens the port as a server. Doing this means that non-responsive (locked-up) ports can also be detected! The only option is a command-line option. You can specify starting and ending ports to be scanned (from a DOS box or from the "Run..." dialog box) like this: PROBEME.EXE 1000 2000 (would scan all ports between 1000 and 2000) PROBEME.EXE 1000 (would scan all ports between 1000 and 65535) If you get error messages about missing or improperly registered files, just scroll on down to the installation section to find out how to get whatever it is you are missing.
