PowerForm Description

The PowerForm application was designed to be a data fitting and curve fitting program that will produce a linear algebraic expression for a set of paired X,Y data. Unlike common least squares polynomial methods, Powerform employs positive, negative, integer and fractional exponents which enable visually better curve fits and lends greater accuracy to interpolated data. Power exponents are selected automatically, saving the user time and effort. Powerform includes optional selectable transcendental pre-processing functions which 'straighten' data before fitting takes place. In full automatic mode, Powerform evaluates all pre-processing options, denoting the three most effective. Presently these functions include logarithmic, exponential, sinh, cosh, tanh and their reciprocals. Because the program involves significant computation, a processor speed exceeding 1 GHz is recommended. Results of curve fitting are portrayed using numerical and graphical output formats on the console screen; results also saved as file data if required. Operating instructions are supplied in a HTML file, together with the program executable file and demonstration data in one self-installing .exe package, presently of about 397 kbytes length.
