PerfectIt Description

PerfectIt helps you to locate typos and errors in Word documents. It finds mistakes which spelling and grammar checks can't see which makes proofreading faster and helps you to impress even the toughest client. PerfectIt is especially useful where more than one person is working on a document and lawyers, consultants, editors, marketers and publications officers use PerfectIt to save time and deliver error-free documents. PerfectIt checks for: - Consistent hyphenation and capitalisation - List/bullet capitalisation and punctuation - Common typos such as "mange" instead of "manage" - Abbreviation definitions - Capitalisation of headings It can also generate a table of abbreviations, find comments accidentally left in documents and check the labelling of figures and tables. PerfectIt is completely customisable and can learn your preferences. Use it to enforce the rules of your house style and to ensure that documents across your organisation are consistent with your brand guidelines. PerfectIt does not require any templates, forms or markers. You write your way and click it when you're ready to proofread. Main features: Phrases with hyphens / dashes – checks if hyphenated phrases also appear without hyphens, eg “short-term” and “short term” Single word split by hyphens / dashes – checks if hyphenated words also appear without hyphens, eg “co-operative” and “cooperative” International variations – checks if any words are spelled in both UK and US variations, eg “colour” and “color” Numerical characters – checks if numbers are used in the middle of sentences consistently, eg “the 3 wise men” and “the three wise men” Compound words – checks if phrases of a similar type appear with and without hyphens, eg “sixty-six” and “thirty four” Abbreviations in two forms – checks if an abbreviation appears in more than one way, eg NASA and “Nasa” Abbreviations defined two ways – checks if one abbreviation has been used with two meanings, eg “ITT (International Trade Team)” and “ITT (Invitation to Tender)” Abbreviations used before definition – checks if an abbreviation that is defined appears in the document at a point before the definition, eg “CBD” appears before “CBD (Central Business District)” Abbreviations defined the same way twice – checks if an abbreviation appears with its definition twice in the same document, eg “TfL (Transport for London)” appears two times Abbreviations without definitions – lists all abbreviations that are not defined and provides an opportunity to add a definition, eg if “USSR” is not defined, this can be changed to “USSR (United Soviet Socialist Republic)” where it is first used Abbreviations not used – checks if an abbreviation that is defined is then spelled out in full, eg “HP (Hewlett Packard)” is defined, but then “Hewlett Packard” is used later in the text instead of HP Phrases in capitals – checks if a phrase that is capitalised also appears in lowercase, eg “President” and “president” Headings in capitals – checks whether headings at the same level use consistent capitalisation, eg “Introduction to the text” and “Conclusion To The Document” Bullet punctuation – checks whether items in a bulleted list end with consistent punctuations, eg semi-colons or full stops List punctuation – checks whether items in a numbered list end with consistent punctuations, eg semi-colons or no punctuation Bullet capitals – checks whether items in a bulleted list start with consistent capitalisation, eg the first word either in lowercase or in uppercase List capitals – checks whether items in a numbered list start with consistent capitalisation, eg the first word either in lowercase or in uppercase Table punctuation – checks that the punctuation within tables is consistent, eg headings end with a full stop or text does not have a full stop Capitals in tables – checks that titles in tables use consistent capitalisation, eg “Results found” and “Data Entered” Consistency of table headings – checks whether tables that have headings are labelled in a consistent way, eg one table may have a heading titled "Table 2" another may have a heading titled "Box 3" Consistency of box/figure headings – checks whether boxes figures that have headings are labelled in a consistent way, eg one figure may have a heading titled "Figure 2" another may have a heading titled "Diagram 3" Table/box/figure order – checks that the numbering on tables is sequential, eg “Table 1” comes before “Table 2” Missing table headings – checks whether some tables have headings and others do not Missing box/figure headings – checks whether boxes / figure have headings and others do not Comments / highlight left in the text – checks that phrases which may indicate additional changes are needed do not appear, eg “Add ----- here” Additional tasks – lets users do a variety of other document checks, including automatically generate a ‘Table of Acronyms’, remove “tracked changes”, remove comments and update the table of contents
