NLS Description

NLS was developed as a configurable Graphical User Interface for numerical simulations of nonlinear type evolution equations. Simulations such as the nonlinear Schrödinger (NLS), 1+2 dimensional NLS, and modified coupled NLS (CNLS) equations can be found in the program. This Java-based application can be easily modified to support new algorithms; sequential and parallel algorithms were implemented and simulated on sequential and multiprocessor machines. The application consists of two components: · the client, which is the GUI presented here · the server running the different implementations of the algorithms The server receives the parameters, using TCP, runs the simulation, and sends the results back to the requesting client. The user provides the plotting parameters to produce a graph of the simulation. The GNUplot tool, is used for plotting graphs. The user can view and save the plots as well as save the generated Gnuplot commands used to generate the graphs. This tool enables researchers model and exercise new algorithms and make them accessible to the research community through the Internet.
