Movie to Animated GIF Converter has a title that pretty much describes its functionality - it can convert videos (in the MPG, MPEG, AVI or MOV format) to GIF animations. Since installation is not necessary, the program is portable. So, you can place it on a removable drive and run the executable file on any computer. Also, your registry keys will not be affected. The interface of the tool consists of a standard window in which you have few options. You can import a video by using only the file browser, since the "drag and drop" method is not supported (and neither is batch processing). Besides saving the movie as a GIF animation, you can also export the current frame to a still image GIF file, PNG or JPEG. You cannot play the video but you can navigate within the frames by adjusting a slider bar, in order to cut the movie (by setting the starting and ending point). In addition, you can specify the output destination and name, as well as resize the video by 50% and enable the option to exit Movie to Animated GIF Converter when the task is completed. The program uses an incredibly high amount of system CPU and memory while performing a task, and can take a very long while to finish it. During our tests, Movie to Animated GIF Converter successfully converted a couple of AVI files and MPEGs. However, it didn't accurately display two MOVs and popped up an error during the conversion of an MPG file, after which it crashed. But the image quality is very good and the animation runs pretty smoothly (considering it's a GIF). All in all, Movie to Animated GIF Converter is a simplistic but straightforward software for video-to-GIF conversion.
