Of course every image editing program includes a function to convert a color picture into black and white. But for high-quality results, there is more to the conversion process than simple color reduction. Many photographers will still remember the wide range of possibilities which black and white photography offered. MonochromiX will provide users with a PhotoPerfect extension that will help you quickly and easily simulate these processes. This module makes the task of converting from color to black and white simple, but at the same time it places a powerful battery of techniques at your disposal so that you can achieve exactly the result which you desire. The module recognizes almost all the black and white films now available on the market. You can assign these profiles directly to a given photograph. Also, you can customize existing profiles, adding to them and extending them as needed. Apply professional standard red, orange, yellow, green or blue filters in varying strengths as well as mixed just as if you were in the photo laboratory. You can compare the results of your adjustments directly with the original in the preview image. Adjust shadows, mid-range areas and highlights selectively so as to achieve perfect results in all brightness ranges. Then select exactly the right paper gradation for your image and 'develop' your black and white image using the balance slider, orienting it either to the highlights or to the shadows. A specially developed sharpness algorithm also provides the necessary brilliance and depth. Finally, the completed black and white image can be adjusted to appear to have been developed onto warm-tone, chamoise or ivory paper (of variable intensity), or it can be sepia or blue toned.
