MaxLister Description

MaxLister is a lightweight tool especially designed for those who need to index the contents of hard drives, floppy disks, CDs, DVDs and all kinds of removable storage devices. With it you are able to create complete and detailed lists with all the items that exist on any of the previously mentioned storage types.Rudimentary but practical interfaceThe application has summed up a decent amount of years since its last revision, more than a decade, and has an interface that was appealing in the Windows XP days. So, as far as GUI is concerned, there’s not much to catch your attention but as far as actual practicality goes, MaxLister doesn't disappoint. Indeed it maintains a rather rigid way of doing things but it works none the less. You can easily choose a folder or drive to index, select the method for the task at hand and then export the virtual drive to your computer. Create a virtual image of any connected driveMaxLister enables you to access any removable device that is connected to your computer and create an image of it which you can then use to locate a file you need. The application proves very helpful if, for example, you’re an engineer that wants to map an entire archive of projects which is stored on an external hard drive. In a couple of seconds you are able to generate and export a detailed hierarchical view of all the folders, sub-folders and files that exist. Moreover, it’s possible to save the virtual drive as an XML database or a text file meaning that you can easily open them and look for a document. Browse virtual drives and search for filesMaxLister is capable of indexing large drives which normally contain a substantial amount of files and for this reason it also implements a practical and efficient means of browsing the virtual drives. You can explore them as you would normally do using the Windows explorer, meaningly fast and easy. Since manually scanning through hundreds of documents can be time consuming, MaxLister implements a search function that allows you to quickly locate a file which is located inside the virtual drive. Index drive content To put things in perspective, despite its outdated interface and in some parts functionality, MaxLister is still a tool that can get the job done when it comes to creating virtual drives.
