MailDefense is a simple and effective solution to the current epidemic of email-borne viruses like I Love You, SirCam, Magistr and Nimda. MailDefense inspects incoming and outgoing emails, quarantining potentially malicious executable attachments and removing embedded scri`pting and ActiveX controls. Microsoft Office files containing VBA macros are quarantined and a clean copy of the file delivered to the inbox. MailDefense works at the winsock layer based on email transfer protocols. It is independent of the email client application used. Supported protocols include SMTP, POP3 and IMAP. Most encoding methods are supported including MIME and UUENCODE. Email clients supported include Microsoft Oulook, Outlook ExPress, Netscape Messenger, Lotus Notes, Eudora, Pegasus, and Becky. Not supported are HTTP based email accounts such as Yahoo, Hotmail, NBCi, etc. AOL email is Currently not supported.MailDefense prevents user complacency in dealing with executable files. Users requiring the ablilty to transfer executables by email may easily do so by zipping those files before attaching. If necessary, received executables and Microsoft Office macros may be recovered from the MailDefense quarantine folder. Alerts are enabled when sending/receiving executable code and when attempting to access files in quarantine.MailDefense keeps your email inbox clean and secure without updating or worry.
