Jarcomp Description

Jarcomp is a small-sized Java-based software utility that lets users compare two files with the JAR and/or ZIP format when it comes to content information. It can be easily handled. Installation is not a prerequisite, which makes Jarcomp portable. You can drop the JAR file to any location on the hard disk and just click it to run. There is also the possibility of saving Jarcomp to a USB flash disk or similar storage unit, so you can run it on any computer that has Java installed. An important aspect to take into account is that the Windows registry does not get updated with new entries, and no extra files are created on the disk, leaving it clean after removal. The user-friendly interface consists of a basic window with a well-organized structure, where you can select two files to compare using the file browser only, since the drag-and-drop feature is unsupported. Apart from the file names, paths, sizes and total containing files, you can check out the name, status and size change for each file. In addition, you can refresh information with the click of a button, as well as compare the MD5 checksums of two files with identical sizes to find out if they have identical content as well. Jarcomp uses low-to-moderate RAM and low CPU, so it does not concern the overall performance of the computer. It has a good response time and works well, without causing the OS to hang, crash or pop up error messages. All in all, Jarcomp serves its purpose and can be easily tinkered with.
