JarBuilder Description

JarBuilder is an open-source utility that allows Java developers to easily build Jar files, as the name implies. Since this is a Java-based application, it doesn't include a setup pack. In other words, you can drop the program files anywhere on the hard disk and click the JAR item to run. It is also possible to save JarBuilder to a USB flash drive or similar storage unit, in order to run it on any workstation with minimum effort, as long as it has Java installed. More importantly, the Windows Registry is not updated with new entries, and files do not remain on the hard disk after program removal. The interface is based on a regular window with an intuitive layout, where the JAR-building process is broken down into three steps. You can get started by selecting the files you want to incorporate, via the file browser. The secondary step implies the generation of a manifest. You can write it yourself, load it from file, set the tool to automatically create it, or skip this step altogether. Once you have specified the compression rate, output directory and file name, you can create the JAR. The application is fast and uses a low-to-moderate quantity of CPU and RAM, so it doesn't affect computer performance. We have not come across any issues in our testing, as the utility did not hang, crash or display error notifications. All in all, JarBuilder delivers a straightforward solution to creating JAR files on the fly. Reviewed by Elena Opris, last updated on August 22nd, 2013
