Its primary function, however is to compress the images, so that their size on the hard disk is reduced. Compressing an image means modifying its color and quality attributes, until you reach the desired size, but without affecting its contents or resolution. This process is highly useful in case you need to upload pictures to a website and there is a size limit. The image size can be reduced/enhanced using a series of methods, including changing its format, resolution, reducing the number of colors and many more. Image Compressor 2008 Free Edition allows you to open the selected image and zoom in or out in order to view it. Image manipulation and profilesYou may easily modify an image attributes, by applying a certain profile to it. These configurations can be changed from the Presets Editor window and are sorted into compression/conversion, resizing, rotation/flipping, applying a watermark or visual effects. The software uses the Digital Eye compression method, in different degrees of intensity. The images can be resized, one by one, by percentage and number of pixels, proportionally or not. Moreover, you can apply picture rotation, by 90, 180 or 270 degrees. A text or image watermark can be added to the base picture, as well as sharpening, blurring or contrast effects. You may enable one or more of these profiles, to be automatically applied when you save an image. This version of the software does not support Photoshop filters (.8BF), batch image manipulation or downloading pictures from the Internet. Image comparisonAside from picture manipulation, Image Compressor 2008 Free Edition also allows you to check their similarities or differences. It can measure resolution, size in KB, or compression ratio. Moreover, the software can determine whether or not the images are identical, as well as the percentage of difference. NOTE: This version of the software does not support several features, such as Photoshop filters (.8BF), batch image manipulation or downloading pictures from the Internet.
