HomeDataSafe Description

Powerful technology from Microsoft makes HomeDataSafe (HDS) possible. The technology consists of three components: an industry-proven database, an operating environment, and the “language” that brings it all together. The two distinct HDS applications are: Personal Asset Manager (PAM) and Personal Knowledge Manager (PKM). PAM was first developed to track homeowner asset-inventories: Systems, Personal Property, Special Items and Asset Collections. The technology chosen is inexpensive enough for small developers, but proves to be complete overkill: it delivers much more than is required for asset-inventory tracking. The PAM design requires the inclusion of image and document data to help describe assets. Consequently the data storage and processing capabilities available to PAM led to the development of PKM, which helps users collect, Categorize, store, and use almost any Computer Information. PAM consists of an entire set of documentation for homeowner assets: System (hotwater heaters, plumbing, air conditioning,....), Personal Property (TV’s, silverware, automobiles,....), Special Items (Paint, tile, carpet, lawn,.....) and asset Collections, PAM Collections, discrete items, like a wine collection, or a collection of rubber duckies. PKM uses the Collection Management structure exclusively. PKM collections are of groups of knowledge-related items, such as documents, images, music or weblinks. The digital files and website links are the items being tracked, as opposed to these items being used to describe assets as used by PAM. PAM descriptive data and digital files point upward, toward the named asset (ie, electrical panel). PKM categories describe downward, toward the knowledge items (images, music, etc.).
