GCS GPS Simulator Description

GCS GPS Simulator is an application designed to provide you with highway routes. It has a mileage and total trip time calculator that might come in handy when planning a trip. Time / mileages are calculated using the mile marker data (or distances between towns data when no mile markers are available) located within parentheses. Mileages within brackets represent the actual mile marker that will be seen when another interstate merges with the interstate you are traveling. A tilde is used as a delimiter in the last record of a highway group. A tilde should not be in the very last record in a state file (ex: TX.txt). When the program is in run mode, it will highlight the next mile marker you will hit in the list in yellow. Time / miles to further locations are calculated also but are not highlighted. To set a temporary alarm to sound 5, 3, and 1 mile before any point, click on that line to focus it. Then right click the mouse to select the '+ alarm' function. A + sign will be placed before the data in the focused record. To remove the + sign, click the menu item again. The data already has a + sign at the end of some highways as a reminder to load a new highway and reset the MPH and MM as needed. To quickly load the last mile marker when the mile markers are decrementing, right click the grid and click 'Last MM'. The mph can be automatically changed upon loading a new highway by placing the mph within. There is another time mileage function in the 'Highway List'. To find the mileage / time between two towns, right click the 'Highway List' and select the speed that you are traveling. Then click on two different lines to display the desired mileage / time. These mileages/times can be accumulated by first clicking the 'Accumulate' menu item (right click on the Highway List). There is a button found at the top on the button bar that will make a single line 3 column grid appear. Enter a mile marker number (in the first column) of the grid to calculate the time / miles to that mile marker. This will be helpful for calculations to a mile marker that is not in the list. An alarm will sound at 5, 3, and 1 mile before that point. A list can be created by right clicking the grid and then clicking the 'Highlight' menu item. Entries in this list can be anything and will cause the grid to highlight these lines in light orange. A highlighting on and off switch can be found in the Preferences window. The sun rise/set is now calculated upon clicking a town in the left 'Highway' column. Right click on the area to the right of 'Mileage/Runtime' and choose a time zone to keep better track of the time other than your own. AZ (Arizona) and NV (Nevada) have their own entry because these states can be confusing. If the '+ alarm' sound is not satisfactory, replace it with any wav file and give it the same name (alarm1.wav). Here is a dictionary of the abbreviations used in the application: TS: truck stop. TF: truck fuel. PI: Pilot truck stop. FJ: Flying J truck stop. TA: Travel Centers of America truck stop. PE: Petro truck stop. RG: Rip Griffin truck stop. LV: Loves truck stop. GC: Golden Coral RY: Ryans PO: Ponderosa BO: Bonanza HO: Hosses RS: Good or convenient restaurant. LMM: Last mile marker.
