As the name of this software implies, Free DVD Mp3 Ripper allows you to extract the sound of DVDs and convert it to the MP3 format. The interface of the program is plain and simple to work with. You can import VOB, DAT or MPEG files by using the file browser only, since the "drag and drop" method is not supported (and neither is batch processing). So, all you have to do is specify the output destination, in order to proceed with the encoding job. But you can also modify audio settings when it comes to the bit rate, sample frequency rate and channel mode. Furthermore, you can edit ID3 tags (e.g. title, album, artist), preview videos in a built-in media player, trim clips by marking their start and end position, and more. The simple-to-use video conversion tool requires a moderate amount of system resources, quickly finishes a task, manages to keep a good sound quality, has a good response time and didn't freeze, crash or display errors during our tests. On the other hand, there is no help file available, you cannot change the program's behavior (e.g. enable Free DVD Mp3 Ripper to automatically turn off the computer after the task is done), there is no cancel button during conversion and the interface needs some major improvements. Plus, you cannot actually convert entire DVDs, but only individual parts (and the fact that batch processing is unsupported is not exactly helpful in this matter).
