Fotografix Description

Fotografix is a lightweight, portable image editor that lets you work with layers. In Fotografix you will find all the essential features to retouch and make small fixes to your images, as well as apply a series of effects. It is a small, free application that does not need to be installed, so it's ideal for netbooks and computers with limited resources. It works with the most popular image formats (JPEG, PNG, GIF, BMP, TIFF), and with Photoshop .psd, GIMP .xcf, RAW, Targa, supporting a total of 12 file extensions. With a layout that looks similar to Photoshop, Fotografix interface is clean, to-the-point, and working with it is really easy; menus and toolbars are easily accessible and practically all the tasks are carried out by means of simple dialog boxes. In the toolbar to the left side of the screen you will find different selection tools, several types of brushes, ruler, and tools to erase, transform, add text to your photos, etc. Adjustments like brightness/contrast, color balance, levels, are available through the main menu, along with a handful of common filters like blur, sharpen, stylize, noise, and more. To the right of the screen there is a section with scripts that can be used to automate frequent tasks; you can create your own scripts and add them to this section. The application does its job very well; the most common, daily photo editing tasks can be accomplished without complications, and often with the same results obtained when working with more powerful tools. Of course, in terms of functionality there is no possible comparison with Photoshop or GIMP, but it works efficiently, and the fact that it is a light, portable app is definitely a plus.
